Howdy Chuckwagon Friends

I totally enjoyed all the things I did,  this last day of July.  Coy and I spent time together going on a bike ride around the Strathmore area.  We just took our time and went at a snail’s pace enjoying many things along the way.

A Stop at the Park 

When Coy spied the playground, it was a must to stop.  We had many laughs and I totally enjoyed being a kid again, right along side my grandson.

Once we finished our time at the park, then next stop was a few blocks away at the local Dairy Queen store.  It was a hot lovely day, and something cold appealed to us.  We ordered a couple of chocolate dipped cones.

Upon receiving them, we sat down on the stools by the window, to enjoy what we ordered.  As the first few licks had been eaten, Coy in his wise wisdom, said to me ” Nana, you need to slow down when your eating your ice-cream cone to totally enjoy the experience.”  He blew me away with those words, and yes, I did slow down to enjoy the experience.  As they say, “Out of the mouths of babes.”

As race time was approaching, the skies darkened again out to the north of the grounds.  I was sure the rain was coming, it was just a matter of time.  They got 3 heats out-of-the-way, and then the rain began to fall.  Right when it was our turn to go.

Cody was off the 1 barrel, but unfortunately  he and his team had trouble getting around the top.  He crunched it and away they went.  Such an unfortunate error, but you take it as it is.

Rick hooked Nickel (LL), Spin (RL), Trick (RW) and Law (RW).  Chad and Cole rode Ice and Andy.  Here in Strathmore, I am not able to see Rick’s barrel turn, I can only  catch the action of the race on the back stretch.  So when all the outfits came scootin by, I had my camera ready to roll.  They weren’t the best photos taken, as it was still pouring rain at that point of the evening.  Rick had a great race running two wide to win the race posting a 1:16.08 that held for the duration of the races as top time of the day.  So “Team 23” was excited about that.  These two runs also put us at the top of the 2 day average.

With all the rain that fell,  then comes mud.  And the cleaning begins as soon as the harness is off.  Once that is washed and horses have cooled down in their pens, they get  to have  nice clean shower to wash away the dirt and be fresh again.

The Beautiful Rainbow

After most lightning and thunder storms, we are promised a rainbow.  And tonight it was spectacular looking in the distance.  I just wished that I was able to have gotten the full rainbow in my camera view, but I just wasn’t far enough away.

I hear tomorrow is supposed to be hot sun tanning weather.  I am so looking forward to enjoying it to the fullest.
